Yep, I've been gone for a while...grad school will do that! Now, a newly minted MLS and an employee of The New York Public Library, I have resolved* to restart my blog and get back in the swing of things.
Finishing my MLS was one of the hardest but most rewarding experiences of my life. Imagine my thrill when, just weeks out of school, I was asked to interview for 5 YA positions for which I had applied! It seems the NYPL was in the process of filling YA positions in libraries which either didn't currently have one or hadn't had one so I had applied for 14 positions (if 1 is good ALL of them is better!).
After the interviews the waiting started. And waiting....and waiting.... But I knew to expect that. An organization as large as the NYPL is a big ship to steer. My friends weren't so patient. Every day I answered at least a couple of "have you heard yet?" inquiries. Then the call came. I almost didn't answer it! It was a Manhattan number and it was 6:30 at night. Turns out the fabulous people in the Human Resources department work all kinds of hours.
I was offered the position of YA/Teen Librarian for the Wakefield Branch in the Bronx. I went to visit the library and as soon as I met the fantastic people there (super friendly) I accepted the position. Now I have only been to my branch once since then. I am currently training with the amazing team at the West Farms Branch in the Bronx. It's a family here. And one of the staff members is an author with a blog...so we started chatting. It turns out we each inspired the other to pump up the volume on our blogs.
So, there you have it. My last couple of years in a nutshell. Sorry I was away so long friends!
*Not in that New Year's lose weight/join a gym/give up in a week resolution way, I swear!
